COURSE CURRICULUM

The psychology degree is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour and mental processes across a wide range of contexts. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through core modules in biological and cognitive psychology, social and developmental psychology, and essential research methods and skills. Complementary modules such as everyday psychology, introduction to criminology, health and wellbeing, and social change expand students’ perspectives and begin to connect psychology with broader societal issues.In the second year, students delve deeper into the core disciplines with advanced study in biological, cognitive, social, and developmental psychology, alongside rigorous training in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. This year also introduces specialised optional modules, allowing students to explore personal areas of interest such as cyberpsychology, evolutionary psychology, health and wellbeing, psychology and crime, and psychology in education. These options offer insight into how psychological principles apply to various real-world settings and populations.The final year focuses on integration and application. Students undertake a substantial independent research project, applying their methodological skills and theoretical knowledge to investigate a psychological issue of their choice. Mandatory modules in abnormal psychology and individual differences develop understanding of complex psychological conditions and personal variability in behaviour and cognition. A broad selection of optional modules enables students to tailor their learning to career goals or further academic interests, with choices such as applied health psychology, forensic psychology, cognitive neuroscience, psychology of gender and sexuality, and further study in cyberpsychology and educational psychology. This flexible and thorough program equips graduates with analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, preparing them for a wide range of careers in psychology and related fields, or for postgraduate study.
