COURSE CURRICULUM

The physiotherapy degree is structured across three years, offering a comprehensive blend of academic knowledge and clinical experience. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of professional practice through modules like Becoming a Professional and Human Anatomy and Clinical Science. They also explore key disciplines including Fundamentals of Human Movement and Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal, Cardiorespiratory, and Neurological and Neuromuscular Physiotherapy. The first physiotherapy placement provides an early opportunity to apply theoretical learning in a real-world setting.In the second year, the focus shifts to the management of specific conditions, with modules covering Acute and Long Term Conditions. Evidence Based Physiotherapy introduces students to the principles of research and its application in clinical practice. Further placements deepen clinical exposure, including an elective placement that allows students to explore a specialist area of interest or gain experience in a unique healthcare setting. The module on Exercise and Rehabilitation in Specific Populations ensures students understand how to adapt treatment for diverse groups.The final year emphasizes advanced knowledge and leadership skills. Students engage in the Research, Innovation and Enterprise module, supporting their ability to critically analyse and contribute to the evolving field of physiotherapy. Managing Complexity addresses the challenges of multifaceted health conditions, while Taking the Profession Forward prepares students for transition into professional roles. Three clinical placements during this year ensure students graduate with strong practical competencies. Throughout the course, the integration of academic study and clinical practice equips students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to become effective, evidence-informed physiotherapists capable of working across various healthcare settings.
