COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Human Health degree is structured to provide a progressive and comprehensive education in nutritional science. In the first year, students build a solid foundation with core modules in Food Quality and Production, Biochemistry and Biomolecules, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Scientific Skills, and Research Skills for Nutrition. These modules introduce the essential principles of food production, human biology, and the scientific techniques required for nutritional analysis. The second year deepens this knowledge through modules such as Applied Nutrition and Metabolism, Health Promotion, Obesity and Energy Homeostasis, Healthy Cooking: Science to Practice, and Biology of Disease. Students explore how nutrients are processed in the body, the biological basis of disease, and the science behind promoting health through practical cooking skills. These modules also focus on current public health issues such as obesity and chronic disease prevention. In the final year, the course takes a specialised approach with modules like Gut Health and Beyond, Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, and Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics. Students investigate the role of gut microbiota, nutrition in athletic performance, and dietary strategies for managing health conditions. A Dissertation allows for independent research in a chosen area of interest, supported by the Advanced Nutritional Research module, which refines students’ investigative and analytical abilities. This comprehensive program equips graduates with the academic knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue careers in nutrition, health promotion, dietetics, and related fields. The degree not only covers the biological and chemical aspects of nutrition but also integrates applied and clinical practices, ensuring students are well-prepared for professional roles in both public health and private sectors.
