The BSc Adult Nursing degree at the University of Suffolk is structured over three years, blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for the demands of modern healthcare. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of nursing through modules such as Introduction to Professional Values and Person-Centred Care, which emphasize compassionate, ethical, and patient-focused practice. Fundamentals of Bioscience provides essential scientific understanding of the human body, while Collaborative Working to Optimise Health highlights the importance of teamwork and interprofessional practice in delivering effective care.The second year deepens clinical and theoretical understanding with more focused modules. Pathophysiology and Pharmacology explores the biological mechanisms of illness and the safe administration of medications. Care of the Acutely Unwell Adult equips students with the skills to assess and manage patients in critical or rapidly changing conditions. Research for Adult Nurses introduces evidence-based practice, teaching students to evaluate and apply research to improve care delivery. Ethics, Law and Politics helps students navigate the legal, moral, and political frameworks that influence healthcare decisions and nursing practice.In the final year, students prepare for leadership and advanced practice. Delivering Complex Care focuses on managing patients with multiple or long-term conditions, while Contemporary Perspective in Leading and Managing Care develops leadership skills essential for future roles in healthcare settings. Medicines Optimisation ensures safe and effective use of medications, especially for patients with complex needs. The Dissertation module provides the opportunity for in-depth research on a topic of personal or professional interest, demonstrating academic rigour and critical thinking. Together, these modules ensure graduates are well-equipped with the clinical, academic, and professional capabilities required to deliver high-quality, person-centred care and take on a range of roles within the adult nursing profession.
