The Graphic Design and Graphic Illustration degree program is structured over three years, blending mandatory and optional modules to develop creative, technical, and professional skills while allowing flexibility for students to pursue their interests. In Year 1, students engage with foundational modules: Digital Interpretations introduces digital tools and techniques; Ideas Generation in Illustration fosters creative concept development; Exploring Visual Language builds skills in visual communication; Typographic Exploration covers typography principles; Print Media for Graphic Illustration focuses on print-based design; and Contextual Studies provides a theoretical framework for understanding design in context. In Year 2, the curriculum advances with Visual Identity, where students develop branding and identity design skills, and Applied Ideas in Graphic Illustration, which applies creative concepts to practical projects. Illustration for Screen explores digital and screen-based illustration, while Applying Critical Perspectives deepens analytical skills. Students can choose optional modules like Professional Illustration Practices to gain industry-relevant skills or Work Based Learning for practical experience through placements or live projects. In Year 3, students focus on professional preparation with Graphic Illustration Portfolio Development, where they create a polished portfolio showcasing their best work. The Personal and Professional Critical Review encourages reflection on their creative and professional growth, and the Dissertation allows in-depth research into a topic of their choice, fostering critical thinking and academic skills.
