COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Esports at the University of York, launched in 2025, is a three-year, full-time degree designed to immerse students in the competitive gaming industry, combining theoretical and practical training. In Year 1, students take requisite modules—Introduction to Esports, Creating Digital Media, Digital Marketing & eBusiness, and Introduction to Streaming and Online Broadcasting—building foundational knowledge of the esports industry, digital content creation, marketing strategies, and broadcasting techniques. These modules explore the evolution of esports and its global impact while introducing essential technical skills. In Year 2, students advance with requisite modules including Business of Esports, Leading and Managing Esports Events, Esports Live Broadcasting and Narrative, and Esports Leadership and Team Dynamics, focusing on the commercial ecosystem, event management, storytelling in broadcasts, and team leadership skills critical to the industry. In Year 3, students undertake a mandatory Dissertation, alongside requisite modules Live Esports Event and Brand and Communication Strategies, emphasizing independent research, hands-on event production, and strategic branding to enhance audience engagement. The curriculum, co-designed with industry experts, equips students with creative, technical, and entrepreneurial skills for careers in event management, marketing, content creation, or broadcasting. By leveraging practical projects and real-world challenges, the program prepares graduates to thrive in the fast-growing esports industry within a supportive academic framework.
