COURSE CURRICULUM

The Masters in Mathematics and Data Science provides a comprehensive and practical foundation in both mathematical theory and data science applications. In the autumn semester, students begin with core modules in statistics and network analysis, learning how to interpret complex datasets and explore relationships within data. They also develop skills in representing and manipulating data, alongside understanding commercial and scientific applications of data science, which establishes a strong practical and theoretical base. In the spring semester, the program advances to stochastic processes and optimisation, equipping students with the ability to model uncertainty and improve decision-making in real-world systems. Students choose from specialised options such as relational and non-relational databases, machine learning, or cluster computing, allowing them to tailor the program to their interests and career goals. A core module in modelling for financial and medical systems demonstrates the practical application of mathematical techniques to critical industry sectors. The summer semester is dedicated to a dissertation project, where students apply the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the year to an independent research project. This hands-on experience ensures graduates leave with the ability to analyse data rigorously, develop predictive models, and translate complex mathematical and computational concepts into practical solutions.
