COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc International Journalism provides a comprehensive foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of journalism, preparing students to operate effectively in a global media landscape. In the autumn semester, students complete core modules in Journalism Practice and International Journalism, gaining hands-on experience in reporting, newswriting, and multimedia production. They also choose an additional 20-credit option, which may include subjects such as global creative industries, research methods, human information behaviour, or communication and democracy, depending on their interests and dissertation plans. In the spring semester, students deepen their expertise through compulsory modules in Investigative Research and a choice of 40 credits from specialized options such as advanced social media analytics, digital video production, media regulation and policy, telling true stories, or transitional justice and human rights. Research placements may be available, allowing students to apply their skills in collaboration with non-academic organisations, enhancing practical experience and professional networks. The summer semester is dedicated to a 60-credit dissertation or investigative research project, providing an opportunity to conduct independent research, develop critical thinking, and apply investigative techniques. Throughout the program, students cultivate skills in news gathering, storytelling, data analysis, and multimedia production, equipping them for careers in international news organisations, digital media, investigative reporting, and other journalism-related roles.
