COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Rights and Diplomacy program provides a comprehensive education in both theoretical and practical aspects of human rights and international diplomacy. In the spring semester, students engage with core modules such as Human Rights in Practice, Human Rights Theory, and Approaches to Human Rights, developing a deep understanding of global human rights principles and frameworks. These modules explore the practical application of human rights in real-world contexts, as well as critical theoretical perspectives. Students also have the opportunity to select from optional modules covering topics such as criminalisation, social control, transitional justice, cultural politics of decolonisation, and climate change and human security, allowing them to tailor their studies to their specific interests and career goals. In the summer semester, students further develop their professional skills through modules on Diplomacy Skills for International Human Rights Institutions and Preparation for Independent Working, preparing them to navigate complex international environments effectively. The program culminates in the autumn semester with a dissertation or professional project, or an on-the-job training placement at a UN or UN-affiliated institution, providing hands-on experience and the chance to apply their learning in a professional setting. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and experience to pursue careers in human rights advocacy, policy development, diplomacy, and international organisations, contributing effectively to global human rights initiatives and leadership roles.
