COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Masters in Health Psychology provides a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills. In the Autumn semester, students begin with Perspectives in Health Psychology, exploring key concepts and frameworks that underpin the field. They also study Applications of Health Psychology: Communication, Systems and Context, a module running across both Autumn and Spring, which focuses on the practical application of psychological principles in real-world healthcare settings, including communication and system-level considerations. Quantitative Analysis Methods in Psychological Research equips students with essential skills in statistical analysis, enabling them to design, interpret, and critically evaluate research data. In the Spring semester, students deepen their understanding through modules on Individual, Social and Cultural Differences, which examines how various factors influence health behaviours, and Qualitative Approaches in Psychology, focusing on methods for understanding complex human experiences and health-related behaviours. Approaches to Illness, Disability and Coping provides insight into how individuals adapt to health challenges and the psychological processes involved. The program culminates in a 60-credit Research Project, allowing students to apply both qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate a specific topic in health psychology. This structured approach prepares graduates to contribute effectively to health promotion, intervention design, and applied psychological research.
