COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes Publishing Studies program is structured to provide a comprehensive and flexible approach to research in publishing. In the autumn semester, students begin with the compulsory module Publishing Dynamics, which introduces key concepts, trends, and challenges in the publishing industry. Alongside this, students select either the Publishing Project or Managing Content from Manuscript to Market, enabling them to focus on practical or theoretical aspects of publishing depending on their interests and career goals. In the spring semester, students have the opportunity to choose additional modules, including Telling True Stories, Publishing, Literature and Society, Digital Publishing: Theory and Practice, or Publishing in the Workplace. Selection in the spring depends on prior module choices, ensuring continuity and cohesion in learning. During this semester, students also complete the Portfolio of Work module, which allows them to consolidate their learning and produce a curated body of work demonstrating their understanding of publishing practice and research. The summer semester is dedicated to the Dissertation, a substantial research project worth 100 credits, where students apply their analytical and methodological skills to an in-depth study of a publishing topic of their choice. Throughout the course, students gain both practical and research expertise, preparing them for careers in publishing, further academic study, or professional advancement in the field.
