COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Masters in Public Policy (MPP) provides a comprehensive introduction to policy analysis, research methods, and practical policymaking skills. In the autumn semester, students undertake the compulsory module Politics of Policy Analysis, which explores the frameworks and techniques used to evaluate and design effective policies. Alongside this, students can choose 40 credits from a range of Public Policy options, including modules such as Research Design and Process, Quantitative Data Analysis, International Conflict and Cooperation Analysis, International Organisations, and Human Information Behaviour. These modules develop the analytical, research, and contextual understanding required to address complex policy issues. In the spring semester, students complete the compulsory module Policymaking: Theories and Approaches, providing an in-depth understanding of policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. They also select 20 credits from additional options, such as Qualitative Data Analysis, The Nature of Social Enquiry, Behavioural Economics, Environmental Impact Assessment, or modules exploring social justice and governance, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. The summer semester focuses on the dissertation, a 60-credit independent research project that enables students to apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout the year. This combination of core learning, optional modules, and research experience prepares graduates to pursue careers in government, public agencies, NGOs, and research institutions.
