COURSE CURRICULUM

The MLitt Creative Writing program offers a structured blend of core and optional modules designed to enhance students’ skills across different forms of creative expression. In the autumn semester, students begin with Scriptwriting with Poetry, Workshop One, and The Art of Fiction, each worth 20 credits, which together build strong foundations in poetic techniques, fiction writing, and collaborative learning. These modules focus on developing creative voice, narrative craft, and critical engagement with texts while offering opportunities to refine work through feedback in workshop settings. In the spring semester, students progress to Workshop Two and Telling True Stories, also worth 20 credits each, where they expand into new genres and explore creative non-fiction, deepening their ability to shape narratives from real-life experiences. Additionally, students can select a 20-credit option from Creative Writing or Publishing Studies, such as Publishing, Literature and Society or Digital Publishing: Theory and Practice, allowing them to gain insights into the wider literary and publishing world and explore how creative work connects with professional practice. The summer semester is dedicated to an intensive 60-credit dissertation project, during which students produce a substantial, polished body of work, demonstrating their creativity, originality, and readiness to contribute to the literary field.
