COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Environmental Law and Climate Justice offers a carefully structured program designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in tackling today’s pressing environmental and sustainability challenges. In the autumn semester, students begin with a foundation in research and academic training for the arts and humanities while also exploring international law and sustainable development. They then tailor their learning by selecting from options such as environmental policy, environmental economics, international organisations, or the politics of policy analysis, enabling them to build a multidisciplinary perspective. In the spring semester, the focus shifts to more specialised subjects, with compulsory modules in environmental law and climate justice that address the legal frameworks and ethical dimensions of environmental protection. Students also choose an option such as environmental impact assessment, transitional justice and human rights, or intersectionality and climate change, allowing them to deepen their understanding of the interconnections between law, justice, and global challenges. The summer semester is dedicated to independent research through a 60-credit dissertation, where students apply their learning to a topic of their choice under expert supervision. This program equips graduates with the skills and insights needed for impactful roles in policy, advocacy, international organisations, or legal practice.
