COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Psychology degree at Stirling provides students with a comprehensive understanding of psychology applied to sport, exercise, and physical activity. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in introductory psychology, understanding sport, and sport and exercise science, while also having the option to explore complementary subjects such as finance, ecology, computing, or economics. In the second year, the focus expands to the social and cognitive aspects of human behavior, with modules covering the social mind, brain and behavior, research methods, and foundations of sport and exercise psychology, alongside an understanding of global sport. The third year deepens students’ expertise with advanced sport psychology, individual differences, cognition, developmental psychology, psychology of exercise, and advanced studies in sport. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through social psychology and professional practice modules, while completing a substantial dissertation in sport psychology that integrates theoretical and practical insights. Across the program, students gain both academic knowledge and applied skills, preparing them to support athletes’ mental well-being, enhance performance, and promote healthy lifestyles. The course emphasizes research-led teaching, practical applications, and professional development, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for careers in sport psychology, coaching, performance support, and further postgraduate study.
