COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing program at the University of Stirling is structured to provide a progressive and comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with extensive clinical practice. In the first year, students begin with foundational modules including Practice Learning Experience 1, Integrated Anatomy and Physiology for Health, Self, Relationships and Healthcare, and Developing Fundamental Clinical Skills, which are designed to build essential knowledge and practical skills. The second semester continues this development with Practice Learning Experience 2 and Promoting Mental Health and Resilience, emphasizing emotional wellbeing and strategies to support mental health. In the second year, students further advance their clinical and professional skills through Practice Learning Experience 3, Supporting Self-Management through Positive Relationships, Engagement and Assessment in Mental Health Practice, and Integrating Clinical Skills. Semester two focuses on Practice Learning Experience 4 and Trauma Informed Mental Health Practice, equipping students to address complex patient needs. In the third year, students undertake Advanced Assessment and Applied Pharmacology, Critical Perspectives of Mental Health Practice, and Practice Learning Experience 6 in the first semester, with the second semester emphasizing leadership through Leading Excellence in Practice and Practice Learning Experience 7. The final year integrates research and broader healthcare perspectives through Wider Perspectives of Healthcare, Principles, Processes and Evaluation of Research, a dissertation, and an optional module such as Integrated Approach to Frailty, preparing graduates for professional and evidence-based mental health practice.
