COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Geography degree at the University of Stirling offers a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between humans and the environment, combining environmental science with social and policy perspectives. In the first year, students study foundational topics such as Building Planet Earth, People and the Environment, Landscape Evolution, and Global Environmental Issues, while also choosing options across environmental and related disciplines. The second year focuses on core skills, including Biogeography, Field Skills for Sustainable Solutions, Environmental Resilience, and Statistical Techniques, alongside optional modules that allow exploration of biodiversity, business, data science, or diving. In the third year, students develop applied expertise through modules such as Environmental Policy and Management, Geographical Information Systems, Sustainable Development, and further optional studies in habitat management, sustainable landscapes, and fieldwork experiences, including international and mountain leader courses. The final year emphasizes advanced research and practical application, with the Biological and Environmental Sciences Honours Project forming the core of the dissertation component. Students also select options to further specialise in areas such as conservation placements, sustainable water management, earth observation, and environmental hazards. Across the course, students gain practical skills in research, fieldwork, geographic information systems, environmental analysis, and policy evaluation, preparing graduates for careers in environmental consultancy, conservation, policy, research, and international environmental management.
