COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) at the University of Stirling provides a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for a career in primary teaching, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts in education, including philosophy, psychology, and sociology, alongside early child development and environmental studies. They also study politics, policy, and practice in education while learning methods to facilitate early child learning. In the second year, the focus shifts to pedagogy, covering the nature of learning and teaching, differentiation, assessment, and progression, complemented by ecological and environmental studies. Practical experience is introduced through the first school placement. The third year builds on pedagogical knowledge and professional development with modules addressing contemporary issues in primary education, responsibility for all, environmental science in the primary curriculum, and differences and identities, alongside a second school experience placement. In the final year, students undertake extended teaching practice and a dissertation through an educational enquiry project, developing reflective practice and advanced planning skills. The program’s structure ensures students gain a deep understanding of educational theory, practical classroom skills, and the ability to design, implement, and assess teaching strategies. By combining subject knowledge with hands-on experience, graduates are fully equipped to enter primary education with confidence, competence, and a reflective, student-centered approach.
