COURSE CURRICULUM

This Data Science course provides a comprehensive foundation in computing, programming, and data analysis, preparing students to work with artificial intelligence and modern data technologies. In the first year, students develop essential skills through modules in computing science, discrete structures, programming, user interface design, and data science, alongside optional modules from areas such as finance, ecology, and economics to broaden their perspective. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced topics, including database principles, scripting for data science, data structures, NoSQL databases, data warehousing, practical statistics, and an optional professional development module to support work experience placements. In the third year, students focus on specialized areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, UX design, software engineering, data strategy, and optional programming paradigms, with the opportunity to gain industry experience through a summer placement. The final year emphasizes advanced applications and research, with compulsory modules in data science applications and distributed data science systems, a dissertation project spanning both semesters, and optional modules in artificial intelligence and cyber security. Throughout the course, students gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience, developing skills in data analysis, algorithm design, AI technologies, and computing systems, ensuring they are highly employable and prepared to contribute to the growing field of data science across multiple industries.
