COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing program at the University of Stirling is designed to develop competent, compassionate, and reflective practitioners equipped to work in diverse healthcare settings. In the first year, students begin with foundational modules including Practice Learning Experience 1, Integrated Anatomy and Physiology for Health, Self, Relationships and Healthcare, and Developing Fundamental Clinical Skills, providing essential knowledge and practical skills for patient care. In the second semester, students continue with Practice Learning Experience 2 alongside Promoting Mental Health and Resilience, which emphasizes emotional wellbeing and the promotion of positive mental health. The second year builds on these foundations, combining Practice Learning Experience 3 with modules such as Supporting Self-Management through Positive Relationships, Engagement and Assessment in Mental Health Practice, and Integrating Clinical Skills, enabling students to develop advanced assessment techniques and therapeutic approaches. Semester two of year two focuses on Practice Learning Experience 4 and Trauma Informed Mental Health Practice, preparing students to recognize and respond to complex mental health needs. In the third year, students advance their knowledge through modules including Advanced Assessment and Applied Pharmacology, Critical Perspectives of Mental Health Practice, and Practice Learning Experience 6. The final semester emphasizes leadership and professional excellence through the Leading Excellence in Practice module alongside Practice Learning Experience 7, ensuring graduates are ready to deliver safe, effective, and person-centered care in professional mental health settings.
