COURSE CURRICULUM

The University of Stirling’s Accountancy degree offers a structured, four-year program designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in accounting, finance, and business management. In the first year, students build foundational expertise through compulsory modules in financial and management accounting, financial markets and institutions, and introductory economics, alongside optional modules spanning subjects such as computing, ecology, and business decision-making. The second year advances this knowledge with core modules in finance, corporate law, personal finance, and external reporting, while students may choose options that broaden their understanding of business, information management, or science-related topics. In the third year, the focus shifts to advanced accounting topics including accounting information, advanced financial accounting, auditing, taxation, quantitative methods for business decisions, and applied management accounting. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a substantial accounting dissertation, supplemented by specialised modules in accounting analytics, international finance, securities and investment, and issues in accounting. Semester two of the final year allows students to choose from advanced topics such as mergers and acquisitions, critical analysis of accounting and finance issues, financial analysis, or professional development, enabling them to tailor their studies to career ambitions. Across all four years, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and applied practice to prepare graduates for professional accountancy, finance roles, or further study, while ensuring eligibility for exemptions from recognised professional accountancy qualifications.
