COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching degree provides a comprehensive blend of academic study and practical experience to prepare students for careers in sport and exercise. In the first year, students build a foundation in understanding sport and exercise science, alongside optional modules in areas such as accounting, computing, ecology, and economics to develop a broad skill set. The second year focuses on coaching physical literacy, sport development, and the foundations of sport management or sport and exercise psychology, while allowing students to choose additional modules to broaden their expertise. In the third year, students advance their knowledge through research methods, coaching sport, sports policy, and the development of community sport, with further focus on developing sport coaching and advanced studies in sport. The final year emphasizes professional practice and the development of excellence in sport, alongside a major project in sports studies that allows students to conduct independent research and apply their learning in a practical context. Across all four years, the degree integrates theoretical understanding with hands-on experience, providing opportunities to engage with sport organizations, community programs, and professional practice. This combination equips graduates with the skills, knowledge, and professional competencies needed to contribute effectively to sport development, coaching, and broader community and elite sporting environments.
