COURSE CURRICULUM

The program in secondary science education focuses on developing both subject knowledge and teaching expertise in chemistry or physics. Students begin by exploring literacies for the 21st century, alongside modules that introduce them to educational theory, including philosophy, psychology, sociology, politics, policy, and practice. These foundational courses are complemented by subject-specific modules that develop practical skills in teaching STEM subjects, ensuring students are prepared to design and deliver effective lessons. As the course progresses, students engage with education studies and modules on curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment, which equip them with the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences. Professional enquiry modules encourage reflective practice, helping students critically examine their teaching methods and educational approaches. Integral to the program are school placements, which provide hands-on experience in real classroom settings, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge, develop classroom management skills, and build confidence as educators.
