COURSE CURRICULUM

The French degree at the University of Stirling is structured to provide students with progressive language development alongside broader cultural and academic knowledge. In the first year, students begin with introductory or French-speaking world modules, complemented by optional modules across subjects such as finance, computing, and environmental studies, allowing a tailored and interdisciplinary approach. The second year builds on this foundation, introducing intermediate French alongside a wide range of optional modules from arts, sciences, and business, helping students combine language study with other academic interests. By the third year, students deepen their understanding through advanced French modules, with options to explore specific themes like French film, the French Atlantic Slave Trade, or practical translation skills. A study abroad semester or independent research project in French offers immersive language experience and intercultural development, enhancing employability. In the final year, students advance to higher-level language proficiency through modules in advanced French, while optional modules allow further specialization in cultural or thematic areas. The degree concludes with a dissertation or a practical translation project, enabling students to demonstrate research, analytical, and language skills.
