COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Finance program at the University of Stirling offers a structured progression through core financial and accounting principles, combined with practical analytical skills and options for specialization. In the first year, students build a foundation with modules in financial accounting, management accounting, economic decision making, financial markets, and institutions, supported by an introductory HeadStart module. Semester two introduces understanding the wider economy alongside optional modules to broaden knowledge in areas such as data science, physiology, and environmental topics. The second year advances technical expertise with Finance I and II, personal finance, and external reporting, while optional modules allow students to explore interdisciplinary subjects such as biodiversity, diving science, and business organization. In the third year, students deepen their analytical skills with quantitative methods, international finance, accounting information, financial analysis, and mergers and acquisitions, alongside optional modules in auditing, taxation, and applied management accounting. The fourth year focuses on advanced study and practical application, with a dissertation in finance, securities and investment, and further optional modules including advanced financial accounting, accounting analytics, and professional development. Throughout the program, students gain a comprehensive understanding of financial theory and practice, preparing them for careers in corporate finance, investment management, and financial services, with opportunities for professional accreditation and exam exemptions.
