COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Media degree provides a comprehensive foundation in media studies, combining theoretical knowledge with practical production skills to prepare students for careers in the growing UK film and media industry. In the first year, students are introduced to media studies, industries, and the moving image, alongside optional modules in subjects such as computing, finance, ecology, and economics, allowing for interdisciplinary exploration. In the second year, the focus shifts to reading and analyzing film and television, digital media and culture, and further optional modules that build knowledge in both arts and sciences. Students begin to develop practical skills while continuing to deepen their understanding of media theory. In the third year, students select advanced modules in areas such as digital creativity, audio and video production, social media marketing, animation, and digital storytelling, enabling them to apply theory to practical projects. The fourth year emphasizes professional practice, research, and specialized production skills, with options including audio podcasting, content development, media audiences, and reception studies. Students also complete a major dissertation or project in film, media, documentary production, or screenwriting, demonstrating their ability to conduct independent research and creative work. The course balances analytical, creative, and technical skills, preparing graduates for diverse roles in film, television, digital media, and related industries.
