COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Business Law program provides a comprehensive study of law as it relates to business, society, and the UK legal system, with a particular focus on Scottish law. In the first year, students gain a foundational understanding of law through compulsory modules including Law in the 21st Century and Criminal Law and Evidence, alongside optional modules that allow exploration of complementary subjects such as accounting, computing, economics, and environmental studies. In the second year, students deepen their legal knowledge with compulsory modules in Business Law II and the Law of Commerce, while continuing to select options from a range of interdisciplinary subjects, enhancing the ability to contextualise legal principles in wider business and societal frameworks. The third year emphasizes advanced study and specialisation, with students taking research methods and selecting from Level 10 modules in areas such as Alternative Commercial Dispute Resolution, Environmental Law, International Human Rights Law, Labour Law, European Law, Energy Law, Jurisprudence, Private International Commercial Law, and Roman Law. In the final year, students undertake a substantial dissertation, continuing to explore advanced modules and consolidating their expertise. The degree balances theoretical knowledge with practical insight, equipping students with critical thinking, research skills, and professional competencies, preparing them for diverse career paths in business, management, public service, or further legal study.
