COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy course is structured over two years to develop students’ professional knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in delivering effective, person-centred care. In the first year, students are introduced to the core principles of the profession through the module The Occupational Therapist, which explores the role and responsibilities of occupational therapists in various settings. Valuing Occupation focuses on understanding the importance of meaningful activities in promoting health and well-being. The modules Putting Occupational Therapy into Practice A and B allow students to apply theoretical learning in real-world contexts, developing essential assessment, intervention, and communication skills. Integrating Theory, Evidence and Practice 1 helps students connect academic knowledge with professional practice through reflective learning and research-informed approaches. In the second year, Integrating Theory, Evidence and Practice 2 continues to strengthen critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Promoting Occupational Therapy encourages advocacy and leadership within the profession, while Advancing Occupational Therapy focuses on innovation and adapting to contemporary health and social care challenges. The final module, Autonomous Practice, prepares students to transition into independent professional roles by consolidating their skills, ethical understanding, and decision-making abilities. Together, these modules create a comprehensive foundation for effective, compassionate, and evidence-based occupational therapy practice.
