COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Wildlife Conservation program is structured over three trimesters to provide students with a thorough understanding of conservation science and practical skills for addressing biodiversity challenges. In Trimester One, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Research Skills and Design for Conservation Science, which equips them with essential research methodologies and critical thinking skills. GIS and Remote Sensing Applied for Wildlife Conservation teaches students to use spatial technologies for monitoring and managing wildlife populations, while Global Conservation Challenges explores the ecological, social, and policy contexts of biodiversity loss. Conservation Planning focuses on designing and implementing effective strategies for habitat and species management. Trimester Two provides hands-on experience through Conservation Fieldwork in the Tropics, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world environments and develop practical field skills. Professional Practice develops the professional competencies necessary for a career in conservation, while Conservation Genetics introduces the use of genetic tools in species management and biodiversity assessment. Trimester Three is dedicated to the Dissertation, enabling students to undertake independent research that synthesises theoretical knowledge, field experience, and analytical skills to address a specific conservation problem. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with the expertise, practical experience, and professional skills to pursue careers in wildlife conservation, ecological research, environmental consultancy, and policy-making, contributing effectively to global biodiversity protection and sustainable ecosystem management.
