COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sustainability program is structured over three trimesters to provide a comprehensive understanding of environmental, geographical, and sustainability issues while developing research and professional skills. In Trimester One, students study Resource Security, examining global challenges in the availability and management of essential natural resources, alongside Postgraduate Scholarship Skills, which develops research, academic, and professional capabilities essential for postgraduate study. Students also choose two optional modules from Geographical Information Systems, Environmental Pollution and Remediation, and Energy and Sustainability, enabling them to tailor their learning to their specific interests and career goals. Trimester Two focuses on Contemporary Issues in Sustainability, exploring current global challenges and innovative strategies to address environmental and social concerns. Planning and Policies of Urban Environments examines the role of urban planning, policy-making, and governance in promoting sustainable cities and communities, while Research Design and Delivery equips students with the skills to design, conduct, and analyse research projects relevant to sustainability practice. Trimester Three is dedicated to the Dissertation, allowing students to undertake an independent research project that synthesises theoretical knowledge and practical insights, demonstrating their ability to analyse, evaluate, and propose solutions to sustainability challenges. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills, preparing them for careers in sustainability consultancy, environmental management, urban planning, policy development, and other roles within the green economy.
