COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Safety, Health and Environment program is structured over three trimesters to provide a comprehensive understanding of workplace safety, health, and environmental management. In Trimester One, students study Postgraduate Scholarship Skills, developing research, academic, and professional capabilities essential for postgraduate study. Standards and Auditing focuses on regulatory frameworks, compliance, and auditing processes, while Occupational Health and Hygiene explores strategies to prevent work-related ill-health and promote employee wellbeing. Safety Conservation examines practical methods for hazard identification, control, and accident prevention in a variety of workplace environments. Trimester Two builds on this foundation with Professional Practice, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and develop leadership skills. Research Design and Delivery equips students with the skills to design, conduct, and interpret research projects relevant to safety, health, and environmental management. Environmental Impact Assessment introduces methodologies to evaluate and mitigate the environmental effects of organisational activities, and Risk Regulation explores legislative and organisational approaches to managing health, safety, and environmental risks. Trimester Three is dedicated to the Dissertation, giving students the opportunity to undertake independent research, applying theoretical frameworks and practical insights to a specific SHE-related challenge. Overall, the program prepares graduates to lead safety, health, and environmental initiatives, ensuring compliance, sustainability, and the protection of people and the environment in diverse professional settings.
