COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Microsystems and Microfabrication provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the rapidly advancing field of micro- and nano-scale engineering. The program begins with the Design and Characterisation Lab, where students gain hands-on experience in analysing and evaluating the performance of microdevices, developing a foundational understanding of device functionality and measurement techniques. The Microfabrication Lab introduces advanced fabrication methods, enabling students to construct complex microsystems with precision and accuracy. Semiconductor Microdevices focuses on the principles, design, and operation of semiconductor components, exploring their applications in electronics, photonics, and sensing technologies. Nanophotonics examines the behaviour and manipulation of light at the nanoscale, providing insights into optical communication, sensors, and emerging photonic devices. Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) covers the integration of mechanical and electrical components at the microscale, demonstrating their role in navigation, biomedical devices, and environmental monitoring. The program culminates in a Microsystems Project, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills to design, fabricate, and characterise a complete microsystem, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application.
