COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Criminology program is structured to provide an in-depth exploration of justice, inequality, and reform within contemporary criminal justice systems. The module Applied Social Research Methods introduces students to advanced and innovative research techniques, preparing them to design and conduct high-quality criminological research. Changing Lives: Living with Justice and Injustice examines the human and social dimensions of justice, focusing on how crime, punishment, and inequality shape individual and community experiences. Deconstructing the Criminal Justice Process provides a critical analysis of how justice is administered, exploring institutional processes, policies, and their broader social implications. The Social Sciences Postgraduate Dissertation allows students to carry out an independent, original research project on a criminological topic of their choice, demonstrating their academic and analytical capabilities. In addition, students select one optional module to tailor their learning experience, choosing between Making Change Happen, which explores the design and implementation of social and policy reforms, or Supporting Research: Leadership and Impact, which develops the ability to lead, manage, and communicate impactful research. Together, these modules equip students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills necessary for research, policy development, and professional practice in criminology and criminal justice.
