COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology program provides a comprehensive and practice-oriented understanding of how exercise can be used to manage, treat, and prevent a wide range of chronic diseases. Students begin by studying modules such as Clinical Assessment and Exercise Testing and Pathophysiology and Aetiology of Disease, which build a strong foundation in understanding the mechanisms and physiological effects of various health conditions. The module Disease, Acute and Chronic Exercise Interactions explores how exercise influences disease progression and recovery, while Exercise Prescription and the Management of Chronic Disease focuses on designing safe, effective, and individualised exercise programs. The module Encouraging Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours teaches strategies to motivate and support patients in adopting long-term positive health habits. A key feature of the course is the Clinical Placement and Professional Practice module, where students complete practical training and gain hands-on experience in healthcare environments. The Clinical Assessment of Competencies ensures students meet professional standards required for clinical exercise physiologists. Finally, the Research Project or Dissertation allows students to conduct an in-depth investigation into a topic of interest, applying critical thinking and research skills to contribute to the evidence base in exercise physiology and clinical health practice.
