COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Building Surveying course is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key principles and practices within the field, combining technical, legal, and managerial aspects of the profession. In trimester one, students develop a solid foundation in Building Law Principles, Building Procurement and Contract Administration, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and Building Surveying Practice, gaining essential knowledge of legislation, contractual frameworks, and digital tools that underpin modern surveying. Trimester two focuses on the technical and analytical aspects of the discipline through modules such as Building Technology, Building Adaptation, Building Pathology, and Plan-making for Place-shaping. These modules enable students to understand building performance, diagnose structural issues, and explore sustainable methods of adaptation and refurbishment to meet contemporary standards and regulations. The final trimester is dedicated to the Dissertation, where students undertake an independent research project that integrates theoretical understanding with practical application, addressing current challenges in the built environment. Delivered through flexible full-time, part-time, and distance learning pathways, this course is designed for graduates and professionals looking to enhance their expertise or transition into the building surveying profession.
