COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Social Research Methods master’s program provides a comprehensive foundation in designing, conducting, and evaluating research within the social sciences. Core modules focus on equipping students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge, including applied research in practice, understanding and implementing diverse methodologies through the Making Methods module, and exploring leadership, impact, and ethical responsibilities in Supporting Research: Leadership and Impact. The program culminates in a Social Sciences Postgraduate Dissertation, allowing students to independently plan, execute, and analyse a research project on a topic of their choice, applying the skills gained throughout the course. In addition to core modules, students can choose an optional module to tailor their studies to their interests or career ambitions. Options include Taking a core module from other postgraduate courses within the suite, or specialised topics such as Changing Lives: Living with Justice and Injustice, which examines social inequalities and strategies for social intervention, or Making Change Happen, which focuses on practical approaches to effecting social transformation. By combining rigorous academic learning with applied, real-world research experiences, this course prepares students for careers in social research, policy development, consultancy, and related professional roles, fostering both critical thinking and practical expertise in addressing complex societal challenges.
