COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Psychology (Therapies) program offers a comprehensive and applied understanding of psychological interventions for common mental health disorders and related conditions. The course covers key areas including psychological therapies for issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviours, emphasising the practical application of evidence-based approaches. Students explore cognitive behavioural therapy and its use in supporting both mental and physical health, gaining insight into how psychological interventions can improve wellbeing and manage chronic conditions. The program also develops research skills, enabling students to design, conduct, and critically evaluate studies in psychology, equipping them with the ability to integrate evidence into professional practice. Addictive behaviours are examined in depth, providing a detailed understanding of the psychological, social, and biological factors that underpin substance misuse and behavioural addictions, as well as the interventions used to support recovery. The dissertation allows students to investigate a specialised area of interest, applying both theoretical knowledge and research skills to produce a substantial piece of independent work. This combination of applied therapy modules, research training, and independent investigation prepares students for careers in healthcare, mental health services, and the independent sector, as well as providing a strong foundation for further postgraduate study, including clinical psychology or doctoral research.
