COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Acoustics program is structured to provide a balanced mix of core knowledge, specialist study, and applied research, with flexible options for full-time and part-time students. In the first trimester for full-time students, or during the first year for part-time students, students study the core module Principles of Acoustics and Vibration, which introduces fundamental concepts in sound and vibration. Alongside this, students choose three optional modules from Room Acoustics, Digital Signal Processing and Machine Learning, Psychoacoustics and Musical Acoustics, and Noise and Vibration Control, allowing them to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. The second trimester for full-time students, or the second year for part-time students, focuses on the module Loudspeakers and Microphones, providing practical and theoretical insights into audio transducers. Students again select three optional modules from Measurement, Analysis and Assessment, Computer Simulation for Acoustics, Immersive Sound Reproduction, and Environmental Noise Measurement and Modelling, giving further opportunity to specialise in areas such as environmental acoustics, sound reproduction, or computational modelling. In the final trimester for full-time students, or in the third year for part-time students, the program culminates in the MSc Acoustics Project, an independent research project that integrates theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing graduates for professional roles in acoustics, audio engineering, and related industries or further academic study.
