COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing program is structured to build knowledge, confidence, and professional competence over two years. In the first year, students focus on understanding the unique care needs within mental health practice through the module Exploring Mental Health Field Specific Care Needs. They also study Exploring Evidence-based Interventions in Nursing, which develops their ability to apply research and clinical evidence to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care. The module Establishing Integrated Nursing Practice introduces the principles of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and across health and social care settings, helping students link theory to real-world nursing practice. In the second year, the emphasis shifts towards independence and professional judgment. The module Being a Judicious, Contemporary and Autonomous Mental Health Practitioner encourages students to become reflective, ethical, and adaptable nurses capable of making sound clinical decisions. The final module, Consolidation of Integrated Nursing Practice, allows students to integrate their learning and demonstrate readiness for professional registration by applying advanced skills in practice. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive foundation in mental health nursing, preparing students to support individuals’ recovery, promote well-being, and contribute effectively to the modern mental health care system.
