COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Terrorism and Security program is structured over three trimesters to provide a comprehensive understanding of terrorism, security, and intelligence within national and international contexts. In Trimester One, students study Terrorism: Threat and Response, which examines the tactics and strategies employed by terrorist groups and the measures used to mitigate their impact. The Security Studies module provides a broader understanding of the theoretical frameworks and practical considerations in national and international security, equipping students with the analytical tools to assess complex threats. Trimester Two allows students to tailor their learning by selecting two modules from options such as Contemporary Security, Intelligence and Terrorism, The Middle East and Terrorism, Strategic and Security Studies, The Secret State: Domestic Security in Britain, Terrorism in Europe since 1945, Conflict and Development, or Hacking for the Ministry of Defence. These modules explore historical and contemporary case studies, intelligence practices, regional security issues, and technological aspects of security operations, providing depth and specialisation. Trimester Three is dedicated to the Dissertation or the Terrorism and Security Practicum, enabling students to undertake independent research or practical application of their knowledge in real-world or simulated security contexts. Graduates leave equipped with critical thinking, research, and professional skills, prepared for careers in intelligence, law enforcement, policy-making, academia, and security-related fields.
