COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Journalism program at Salford offers specialised pathways in Broadcast, News, and Sport, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their professional interests. Across all pathways, students develop a strong foundation in the principles and practices of journalism, beginning with core modules such as Law and Government for Journalists, which explores the legal framework and ethical considerations shaping media practice, and News and Ethics, which provides critical understanding of editorial responsibility and journalistic standards. In the Broadcast pathway, students gain practical experience through modules in Audio Journalism and TV and Video Journalism, alongside Professional Practice and a Major Project that consolidates learning in real-world scenarios. The News pathway focuses on Digital and Social Media Journalism, Professional Practice, and a Major Project, enabling students to produce content across multiple platforms while developing expertise in online engagement and audience interaction. The Sport pathway combines Sport Journalism, Sport News, and Professional Practice with the Major Project, allowing students to specialise in reporting, analysis, and content creation for sports media. In addition to the core modules, students select a 15-credit optional module from choices such as Audio Journalism, Developing Audiences, Digital and Social Media Journalism, Specialist Journalism Practice, Sport News, or TV and Video Journalism, providing further opportunities to refine their skills and align learning with career goals in journalism.
