COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA International Relations and Global Challenges program is structured across three trimesters, combining theoretical study, research training, and applied analysis to prepare students for careers in international affairs. In the first trimester, International Relations: Theories and Practices introduces key concepts, frameworks, and debates that underpin the study of global politics, while Security Studies examines contemporary threats, conflict dynamics, and the strategies states and organisations use to maintain security. The second trimester focuses on International Relations Research Methods, providing students with the skills necessary to design and conduct rigorous research, analyse data, and develop evidence-based arguments. Students also select one option module from a diverse range, such as The Middle East and Terrorism, Strategic Studies, Conflict and Development, Terrorism in Europe since 1945, Contemporary Security, Intelligence and Terrorism Studies, Global Environmental Politics and Energy Security, or The Politics of the European Union, allowing them to specialise in a particular area of interest and gain deeper expertise. The final trimester is dedicated to the Dissertation, an independent research project that enables students to apply theoretical knowledge and research skills to a specific international relations issue, demonstrating critical thinking, analytical ability, and professional competence. This combination of modules ensures graduates are well-equipped to pursue careers in diplomacy, government, international organisations, security analysis, policy-making, and research, with a strong understanding of contemporary global challenges.
