COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA International Journalism program is structured across three trimesters, combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and independent research to prepare students for careers in global media. In the first trimester, Global Perspectives on Journalism introduces students to the international media landscape, examining the role of journalism in different cultural, political, and social contexts. News and Ethics provides a foundation in journalistic ethics, helping students navigate the responsibilities and challenges of reporting in a professional and ethical manner. The second trimester focuses on practical skills, with Journalism Practice in a Digital Newsroom offering hands-on experience in reporting, editing, and producing content across digital platforms. Specialist Journalism Practice allows students to develop expertise in a particular area of journalism. Students can also choose from modules such as Developing Audiences, Digital and Social Media Journalism, or Sport News to tailor their learning, or select from 30-credit options exploring topics such as security, terrorism, and conflict, providing additional depth in specialised fields. The final trimester is dedicated to the Major Project, an independent research or production project that allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world context, producing a substantial body of work that demonstrates professional competence, creative thinking, and analytical ability. This structure ensures graduates are well-prepared for a variety of roles in international journalism and media industries.
