COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Contemporary Fine Art program is structured to develop students’ creative practice, critical thinking, and professional skills through a progressive three-semester framework. In semester one, modules such as Creative Research Methods and Exploring Theory and Practice introduce students to advanced research approaches and critical perspectives that underpin contemporary art-making. These modules encourage students to connect conceptual ideas with practical experimentation, building a strong foundation for independent creative development. In semester two, the focus shifts towards professional engagement and contextual understanding through Real World Context and Expanded Studio Practice. Students explore how art operates within public, social, and cultural environments, developing their practice in relation to current industry trends and opportunities. This stage emphasizes collaboration, exhibition-making, and interaction with external partners, galleries, and communities. Semester three centers on the Definitive Practice module, where students consolidate their learning through a self-directed body of work or final project that demonstrates artistic maturity, conceptual depth, and technical skill. This capstone project reflects their personal creative identity and prepares them for professional or further academic progression. The program as a whole integrates theory, research, and practice to cultivate innovative artists capable of contributing to and shaping the future of contemporary art.
