COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Animation is structured to develop both technical expertise and creative practice through a combination of exploratory, collaborative, and project-based learning. In the first trimester, students focus on Animation Exploration, where they experiment with different animation techniques and approaches to visual storytelling, while also studying Professional and Cultural Contexts to understand the wider industry, audience engagement, and historical influences. The second trimester emphasizes practical workflows through Pipelines and Technologies, equipping students with advanced knowledge of production processes, software, and technical tools essential for modern animation practice. Alongside this, Exploring Collaborative Practice encourages students to work in teams, developing skills in communication, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration that reflect real-world studio environments. The final trimester is dedicated to the Major Project, allowing students to apply their accumulated knowledge, creativity, and technical skills to an individual or group project that demonstrates their personal artistic vision, professional standards, and mastery of production techniques. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to experiment with traditional and emerging animation methods, integrate ethical and sustainable practices, and consider diversity and inclusivity in their creative work. This structure prepares graduates for a range of roles in animation, transmedia, and the broader creative industries.
