COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Fashion Design program is structured across three semesters, combining creative exploration, technical skill development, and professional practice to prepare students for careers in the fashion industry. In Semester One, Creative Research and Fashion Practice introduces students to the foundations of fashion design, encouraging them to engage in extensive research, explore innovative ideas, and develop a strong creative identity. This module emphasizes experimentation, critical thinking, and the application of design principles to produce original and conceptually informed work. In Semester Two, Design Practice builds on these foundations, allowing students to refine their technical skills and translate their creative concepts into tangible fashion outcomes. The focus is on developing advanced garment construction, pattern cutting, and innovative design techniques while considering social, environmental, and industry-relevant influences. Semester Three culminates in the Major Project, where students undertake an independent, comprehensive design project that integrates their learning from previous semesters. This final project enables students to produce a professional fashion collection, often with the opportunity to showcase their work at high-profile fashion events, providing real-world exposure and networking opportunities. Through this structured approach, students gain a balance of creative, technical, and professional expertise, graduating with an industry-ready portfolio, entrepreneurial skills, and the confidence to pursue careers as fashion designers or launch their own fashion labels.
