COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation degree provides a comprehensive understanding of animal ecology, behaviour, and the conservation of biodiversity. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in zoo biology, biodiversity, global wildlife distribution, and field biology, while developing essential study skills and understanding the connections between genes and ecosystems. The second year focuses on conservation biology, wildlife behavioural ecology, monitoring environmental change, and applied ecology, alongside research skill development. Students can choose from specialised modules such as ocean challenges, primate behaviour and conservation, or a university-wide language program to broaden their expertise. The final year integrates advanced technical skills and independent research, with modules in environmental geographical information systems and practical ecology and conservation, culminating in a final year project and professional skills development. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies further, with topics including animal cognition and social complexity, mitigating climate change, tropical ecology and conservation, and bird biology and conservation. The program combines theoretical learning with hands-on fieldwork and laboratory experiences, ensuring students can apply knowledge to real-world conservation challenges. Accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, the degree equips graduates with practical, analytical, and research skills essential for careers in wildlife conservation, ecological research, and environmental management, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to biodiversity protection.
