COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation with Zoo Biology degree combines theoretical knowledge and practical experience to prepare students for careers in wildlife and conservation management. In the first year, students build a foundation in biodiversity, global wildlife distribution, zoo biology, field biology, genes to ecosystems, and study skills, providing a broad understanding of the natural world and human impacts on it. The second year focuses on conservation biology, wildlife behavioural ecology, and zoo-based conservation practices, while also developing research skills essential for professional practice. Students can tailor their learning by selecting optional modules such as primate behaviour and conservation, ecology in action, animal evolution, or wildlife documentation, allowing them to explore areas of personal interest. In the final year, the course emphasizes practical application through modules in zoo and exhibit design, applied ecology and conservation, and a final year project that integrates academic research with professional skills. Additional optional modules, including animal cognition, tropical ecology, bird biology, and environmental GIS, enable students to further specialise. Accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, the program ensures students gain industry-relevant expertise, combining fieldwork, zoo-based experiences, and academic study to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to pursue careers in wildlife conservation, ecological research, and zoo management.
