COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science degree offers a comprehensive program that equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to excel in careers related to sport, exercise, and health. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules covering bioenergetics and nutrients, human physiology, sports biomechanics, sport psychology, principles of training, and digital tools and skills for sport and exercise science. This provides essential theoretical understanding alongside practical skill development. The second year deepens expertise with applied modules such as biomechanics and performance analysis, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and psychological assessment and strategies for athletes. Students also gain research skills through study design and methods, with the option to explore applied strength and conditioning or lifestyle medicine. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation that allows them to conduct independent research, and a placement provides real-world experience in professional settings, enabling them to apply their knowledge and skills in practice. Additionally, students can choose career-focused and optional modules tailored to their interests, allowing specialisation and flexibility within their studies. Throughout the degree, emphasis is placed on blending scientific theory with applied practice, preparing graduates for careers in elite sport, community health, performance analysis, coaching, and broader roles in health and exercise science industries.
