COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology and Criminology program offers an in-depth exploration of crime, justice, and social behaviour, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to critically analyse societal issues. In the first year, students examine contemporary challenges in crime and society, human rights within the criminal justice system, and the impact of culture, power, and social divisions on deviance and inequality. Core modules focus on social justice, thinking sociologically, and understanding structural influences on behaviour. In the second year, students build research skills through qualitative and quantitative methods while studying the social world, alongside optional modules covering critical perspectives on policing, victimology, environmental justice, globalisation, and human rights. There is also the opportunity to study a language as part of the University Wide Language program. In the final year, students choose a core module such as a dissertation or a practice-based work reflection, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to research or practical contexts. Optional modules in the third year allow specialisation in areas such as counter-terrorism, digital society, migration and socio-legal dynamics, probation and rehabilitation, gender and crime, and constructions of childhood and family. Graduates develop critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, preparing them for careers in social research, criminal justice, policy, and community-focused roles.
